Poet's Seat Health Care Center was named after the famous landmark Poet's Seat Tower. In 1966, a local physician created Poet's Seat Health Care Center because he recognized the need for a comfortable place where elders could receive dedicated, personal nursing care. Through a deep sense of commitment and compassion, our facility became a cornerstone of the community. Our philosophy of caring, coupled with our aspiration to create a nurturing "home away from home," still holds true today. Poet's Seat Health Care Center continues to be a leading skilled nursing and rehabilitation facility for Franklin County and its surrounding communities.
Our intimate, family-orientated atmosphere - reminiscent of the center's original beginning over 34 years ago - makes Poet's Seat Health Care Center unique among local health care centers. We are nestled close to downtown Greenfield, one mile from Baystate Franklin Medical Center. We offer the finest nursing care for both long-term, short-term rehabilitation and respite residents.

September 2010 Highlights
Residents and the Poet's Seat staff are working together the first week of September on our float for the Franklin County Fair Parade! This year's theme is "Fair Memories" and the residents had a great time brainstorming ideas for the float. Look for us on the parade route in Greenfield on September 9 beginning at 5:30.
Chuck Wilson will be back on September 10th at 2:30 for the September Birthday Bash. Chuck has been feeling better and says that his voice is in tiptop shape. Welcome back, Chuck!
We'll be having a special social at 2:30 on September 12 to celebrate Grandparent's Day. You can expect lots of great food and grab bag treats. Everyone is welcome. Lots of fun to be had so don't miss it!
We'll be stopping to smell the flowers (and herbs) on September 17 when Rebecca Yafe of The Goldthread Farm and Herbal Pharmacy, visits to talk about herbs and their therapeutic uses. She will be bringing with her some teas for staff and residents to taste. This event promises to be a good sensory stimulation program for everyone.
Theater comes to Poet's Seat on Saturday, September 18! The Covenant Players, a touring theatrical drama group, will be giving a performance right here for residents and their families.
On September 27, Zenaida Diaz, our Activities Director and her assistant Cathy Stevens will attend their Western Mass Activities Professionals meeting. Staff will continue to help with all the activities that happen that day.
We are excited about our road trip to Shelburne Falls on September 27. Residents will be visiting the lovely Shelburne Falls Senior Center. The center's Activities Coordinator Cathy Bontin has planned for special lunch for us and her senior center participants. After lunch, we will take a stroll on the Bridge of Flowers and enjoy the burgeoning autumn colors. A wonderful time is promised.
September means the return of our cherished student volunteers from Stoneleigh Burnham, Northfield Mount Herman and Greenfield High schools. Our residents are looking forward to their regular weekly activities with these great kids.

Our residents are now volunteers for two exceptional programs - Adopt a Soldier and the Birthday Wish Foundation.
Poet's Seat residents have decided to adopt soldier and upstanding young man Michael Radzuik, son of DeDe Radzuik. Dede is one of our cherished Certified Nursing Assistants here at Poet's Seat, and she he also works in medical records. The residents will be corresponding with Michael by sending pictures, sweets, and love, as well as keeping him up on the goings-on at Poet's Seat.
This month, residents will also be volunteering for the Birthday Wish Foundation. The foundation helps homeless children in shelters have a memorable birthday party. Enthusiastic about helping these kids have happier birthdays, residents are looking forward to putting together festive goody bags containing small gifts and treats.
